Restructure evaluation study complete

20 June 2018

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The evaluation of the trial restructure of the LCA’s governing bodies and churchwide functions is complete, with the final consultant’s report submitted to General Church Council (GCC) this month.

Originally proposed by GCC, the trial restructure has aimed to provide more effective leadership and more mission-centric activity, and to deliver resources more efficiently in the church. The 2015 General Synod called for the restructure to be trialled, and delegates from that convention were among those asked for feedback on the changes.

The evaluation also included governing bodies and church departments.

Consultant Wendy Taylor said the majority of committees, boards and individuals who participated reported greater effectiveness in focusing on the church’s core mission, with many also citing improvements in governance and administrative efficiency.

Many congregations indicated their appreciation of support received in communications, human resource management, and financial and IT services. The risk profile of the church has also improved markedly because of the changes, as practices become more compliant with regulations pertaining to the church. Some congregations experienced service glitches and areas for improvement or development have been identified.

GCC is currently considering its response to Ms Taylor’s recommendations and will put proposals to general synod in October.
