A good conscience

26 March 2018

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

How much more is accomplished by the blood of Christ! Through the eternal Spirit he offered himself as a perfect sacrifice to God. His blood will make our consciences clean from useless works, so that we may serve the living God. (verse 14)

Read Hebrews 9: 11-15

Do you have a perfectly clean conscience? Is a clean conscience even attainable? When we consider how we ‘blot our copybook’ each day with inappropriate thoughts, words and actions, how can we ever find a clear conscience?

The letter to the Hebrews points us to the one sure way: the blood of Christ! ‘The blood of Jesus [God’s] Son makes us clean from every sin’ (1 John 1:7). Even when our sins seem more numerous than the hairs on our head, this supreme cleansing agent wipes our slate clean. Our own efforts to chalk up credit with God are ‘useless works’. But look: the Lamb of God takes away the sin of the world – completely and without remainder.

Nothing has the power to torment you like a guilty conscience. But, thank God, in the blood of Christ you have the perfect remedy. ‘Through the eternal Spirit he offered himself as a perfect sacrifice to God’. Faith in him and the blood he shed for you will make your conscience clean. Guaranteed!

Lord Christ, I thank you for your perfect sacrifice for me. Cleanse my conscience so that I can go on my way with my head held high. Amen.
