Where the grass is greenest

So Jesus said again, ‘I am telling you the truth: I am the gate for the sheep. All others who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Those who come in by me will be saved; they will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only in order to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come in order that you might have life – life in all its fullness.’ (verses 7-10)

We’re all looking for the green pasture, the good life where we can enjoy goodies such as a great job, plenty of money, good health, a beautiful house.

As we go through life, though, we often find that the grass that looked greener on the other side of the fence isn’t always so green when we get there. We get a hold on the good life only to discover there’s still something missing.

We need to be constantly reminded that the greenest grass is found through a relationship with Jesus. The pasture he leads us to is eternal life – a pasture lush with contentment, joy and peace.

In Jesus we not only have the good life, we have the best life.

Jesus, thank you for being my shepherd who is leading me to the green pastures of eternal life. Amen.
