Happy attack

3 June 2017

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

May the glory of the LORD last for ever!
May the LORD be happy with what he has made!
He looks at the earth, and it trembles;
he touches the mountains, and they pour out smoke.
I will sing to the LORD all my life;
as long as I live I will sing praises to my God. (verses 31-33)

Read Psalm 104:24-34,35b

Outside, the day is sunny. I look out my study window, and there in our backyard garden I see our cat. He’s having what our children call ‘a happy attack’. The beautiful day has made him mad with joy. He dashes across the lawn, scattering a couple of blackbirds and a pigeon along the way, and races three times around the tree. Then he leaps into the air to lunge at a passing butterfly, falls onto his back on the lawn, grabs his tail in his mouth, and rolls around in the grass. Once more he jumps up into the air, darts to hide behind a pot plant and pauses there for a second. Finally, the grand finale to his madness: he streaks up into the tree, reaches its topmost branches in two seconds flat, and decides it’s time to have a wash.

‘I will sing to the LORD ‘. The Lord who is so great. The Lord who, by a look and a touch, makes the earth shiver. The Lord who has loved me so dearly in Jesus.

That Lord sends a shiver down my spine. He’s enough to give me a happy attack too!

Fill me with joy, Lord Jesus, at the wonder of your love in my life. Amen.
