God’s generosity
You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honoured guest and fill my cup to the brim. I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live. (verses 5,6)
Read Psalm 23
I have vivid memories of long-ago Sunday school picnics. They were more like congregational picnics really. Everyone came. People had fun joining in or watching the games for both young and old.
And then came afternoon tea. Even now I can just about hear those trestle tables groaning beneath their luscious load of cream lilies, cream puffs, lamingtons, sausage rolls and iced sponges. What bliss to plough my way through as much as I could possibly eat.
Our heavenly Father has set out tables for us that are groaning beneath all sorts of spiritual goodies: love, forgiveness, acceptance, peace, joy—and that’s just for starters. As his children we can come and help ourselves to his feast of blessing as often as we like—and for the whole of our lives.
How blessed we are to belong to such a generous God.
Thank you, heavenly Father, for all the wonderful things I’m constantly receiving from your generous hand. Through Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
