The winners have been announced in the Lutheran Archives research competition, which celebrated the LCA 50th birthday as part of the 50.500 faith.freedom.future initiative.

They are Alex Osborne and Eden Bishop from Morley WA, and Levi Podlich from Bethany Lutheran Church and School, Raceview, Queensland. Alex and Eden entered A history of Bethlehem Morley: 1969-2016 to take out the senior section, for students aged 13 to 16 years; while Levi’s Bethany history won the junior section, for students aged 12 years and under.

Students were invited to research the story of their church family and then present it in written or multimedia form.

Chair of the Committee of Lutheran Archives Ev Leske, who judged the awards with LCA Archivist Janette Lange, said the entries included some very high-quality presentations.

‘We thank all students who participated in the competition’, he said. ‘We also thank the pastors and congregational members who supported these students in their research.’

Each prize winner has received a cheque for $100, courtesy of Daryl Wohlers of Wohlers Furniture and Homewares.

The multimedia presentations which won the two sections can be viewed on the website http://50500.lca.org.au/

Nine-year-old Levi Podlich said he was very excited to win the competition.
‘Thank
you so much for selecting me’, he told the organisers. ‘I am so excited. I would love if my PowerPoint presentation was on the Lutheran church’s website. It would make me feel very proud. Also use it for synod if you want, I don’t mind. I love my school and church, Bethany in Ipswich.’
