The first ever preschool for the little ones of Ampilpramdeom Commune, Cambodia

Where once was an empty block of land you can now hear the laughter of little voices from within a new blue building. It’s the preschool building you helped to build from funds raised – a whopping $11,966.62! – at General Convention of Synod last year.

In Cambodia, poverty means preschool isn’t an option for most children. Until now, children like those in the five villages of Ampilpramdeom Commune would simply miss out. But now, 85 children under five are ready for all the precious benefits of preschool.

  • Children become ‘ready to learn’ and so achieve better results in primary school.
  • Learning about health, hygiene and handwashing protects little lives.
  • Parents take pride in, and give greater support to, their child’s education.
  • Young children from three to five years can now go to preschool regularly.
  • Young children have a safe and comfortable place to study.

Mrs Moa Soeun, a mother of a five-year-old girl, from Ampil village says, ‘Young children who have attended the preschool can increase their knowledge as well as morality and have good manner’. Since her daughter had been attending the preschool she was ‘braver’ than she was before. ‘She can learn how to use the pencil as well as pen that she never know before.’

The Project Precious preschool is Lutheran love come to life through Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) and Cambodian partner Life With Dignity.

‘It’s humbling to see the amazing generosity of our Lutheran family’, says Jonathan Krause, ALWS Community Action Manager, ‘and awe-inspiring to see the way God multiplies this generosity to bless lives in places like Cambodia for generations to come’.

Project Precious is part of a $1 million program the LCA/NZ implements in Cambodia through ALWS with the support of the Australian government.

Thank you!
