Beginnings
I have just started a new Bible study group called Know Your Bible (KYB) at my church. Last week, we had our first gathering. I decided to start it off with a foundational book called Good News!, which introduces the function, purpose and message of the Bible.
It is refreshing to start at the beginning again and be reminded of how the Bible was written and put together by the inspiration from God through so many of his faithful prophets and teachers. ‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness’ (2 Timothy 3:16). This text illustrates what God intended for us through the Bible.
One of my group members marvelled that the Bible is so different from any other non-fiction or fiction book ever written because it is ‘living’!
You can open the Bible, read a passage, and go back to the same passage a week later, and it says something different to you. We get to know God the more we immerse ourselves in his word. We get to see his love through his patience, and we see the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. I enjoy revisiting and learning again what I have been taught before because even if you learned all this as a child, imagine what you will discover as an adult.
