Beginnings

4 February 2025

I have just started a new Bible study group called Know Your Bible (KYB) at my church. Last week, we had our first gathering. I decided to start it off with a foundational book called Good News!, which introduces the function, purpose and message of the Bible.

It is refreshing to start at the beginning again and be reminded of how the Bible was written and put together by the inspiration from God through so many of his faithful prophets and teachers. ‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness’ (2 Timothy 3:16). This text illustrates what God intended for us through the Bible.

One of my group members marvelled that the Bible is so different from any other non-fiction or fiction book ever written because it is ‘living’!

You can open the Bible, read a passage, and go back to the same passage a week later, and it says something different to you. We get to know God the more we immerse ourselves in his word. We get to see his love through his patience, and we see the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. I enjoy revisiting and learning again what I have been taught before because even if you learned all this as a child, imagine what you will discover as an adult.

Lutheran Tract Mission (LTM) has many resources to help you get started on your journey to know God better. There are the ‘Daily Bible Readings’ to get you into a good daily reading routine, and the ‘Growing Together as Family’ series to read about the Bible stories with your family.

Lutheran Tract Mission (LTM) has resources to help you begin each new day with Jesus! Go to the LTM website at www.ltm.org.au, search for ‘Bible’ and the ‘Growing Together’ series, and see what you can do to begin your study of the Bible again. Every day is a good day to learn about God and his love and plan for you!

Anne Hansen is Lutheran Tract Mission’s Tract Development Officer.
