LCA Funds Levy
How the levy is used
- Pastoral relief services as a result of a pastor's sickness, accident claims and rest-and-retirement leave
- Pastor funeral expenses
- Pastor pension payments
- Pastor pension loans and car loan interest expenses
- Pastor car grants
- Pastor last-move removal expenses.
Any remaining balance contributes to operational expenses that support agreed churchwide obligations.
Why it matters
Put simply, the LCA Levy is a way in which we can pool our resources so that the wider church can function and care for its people.
- It reflects the synodical nature of the LCANZ (walking together, sharing responsibility).
- It enables equity—smaller congregations still benefit from pastoral care and central support
- It sustains ministry continuity (retirement, leave, transitions).
- It underpins the infrastructure that allows initiatives like the Local Mission Fund to exist alongside it.
How it is calculated
The General Church Board sets the levy amount annually. Currently, parishes are invoiced at the rate of $40 per communicant member aged 18 or older, based on the previous year's statistics in LAMP2. Parish representatives are responsible for collecting and forwarding to the LCANZ the respective levies from congregations within their parish.
