The revealing law

8 December 2017

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. (verses 21-22)

Read Galatians 3:15-22

Over and over again there are rules to tell us what to do. There are rules on what to wear to restaurants, rules on how to drive a car and rules on where to sit in a cinema. In this verse Paul mentions law, sin and faith.

How do these things fit together? Well, Paul wrote Galatians as a letter to the people living in Galatia to show them the right way to live and help them see the error of their ways.

God gives us these laws too. Although there seems to be so many rules and laws, they allow us to figure out what is good.

Sadly we don’t always do what is good and following the rules won’t save us. Only faith in Jesus Christ saves us and that is God’s promise to us all.

The law shows us our sin and points us to Jesus Christ who saves us and makes us good again. By following Jesus and his teaching in the bible, our faith for Jesus is free to shine through our actions.

Dear God, Thank you for your boundaries so that they can show me when sin tempts me. Please help me to be faithful and trust in Jesus Christ to save and guide me. In your name, Amen.
