Communicating in person
In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things at the end. (verses 1,2)
Read Hebrews 1:1-14
I have some friends in Canada I communicate with by email. We enjoy hearing from each other about what we and our families are doing. Email is a great medium, and we appreciate being able to communicate in this way.
However, when they visited Australia recently, we were able to meet and spend time together. We met face to face and were able to see each other’s expressions and reactions. It was so much better to be communicating in person.
The people in Old Testament times heard the word of God through prophets. But then the Word of God came to earth in the person of God’s Son, Jesus. Through Jesus, God was communicating with people face to face—in person.
Today Jesus is still communicating with us. He comes to us through the words in the Bible and through worship and his Lord’s Supper.
What a privilege it is to be able to communicate with you, dear Jesus, person to person. Thank you for coming to me in your word, and thank you that I can speak with you in prayer. Amen.
