Aged Care providers build connection post-forum

2 July 2025

Following the momentum of the recent Networking Forum, one clear theme emerged: a desire for stronger connection and a commitment to working smarter, not harder. The session with Nick Ryan on the Shared Resource Model, along with insights from the pre-session survey, struck a chord with attendees, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and the value in not reinventing the wheel.

In response, the Community of Practice for Residential Aged Care has taken a fresh and purposeful approach to meeting and connecting. Rather than diving straight into tasks or compliance checklists, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding final regulatory requirements, members have begun by reviewing a discussion paper that explores the prospect of working more closely together. This deliberate pause allows space for thoughtful dialogue and shared reflection.

With the delay in the new Aged Care Act, there is currently no pressing regulatory change looming over members. It was collectively agreed that now is the right time to explore collaborative approaches, free from the usual pressures of immediate compliance. This breathing room presents a valuable opportunity for providers to shape a unified response and pathway forward.

Given that the Department and Commission have yet to clarify their approach, the group acknowledged the benefit of coming together to interpret and understand the evolving landscape. The goal is to be proactive: to make sense of what’s ahead, and to do so together.

As part of this broader approach to collaboration, a meeting will also be convened for board chairs, based on suggestions raised during the forum. Their role in governance and strategic alignment is essential, and this meeting will offer an opportunity to ensure board leaders are part of the conversation and the collective direction forward.

The Community of Practice will reconvene at its next meeting to continue this important work, grounded in trust, shared purpose, and the belief that by aligning efforts, providers can be stronger and more prepared for what lies ahead.
