And to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19).

Read Ephesians 3:14–21

Today, let’s rejoice that Christ dwells in our hearts through faith, giving us access to his totally amazing, all-consuming, all-forgiving love. Paul talks about a humungous love – beyond our comprehension. His prayer is that we all have the power to comprehend the magnitude of Christ’s love. It’s that generosity and kindness of God again. He has given us so much – so very much more than we can imagine.

I have lived a privileged life: a happy and stable childhood, access to tertiary education, a fulfilling career, a happy marriage that spans nearly 50 years, happy and healthy children and grandchildren, and a faith that sustains me into the next phase of life.

And what is asked of me in return? Not a lot, really. My understanding is that we are asked to ‘live full lives – full in the fullness of God’, which is how The Message Bible translation describes it. And if we leave God in control and live in God’s fullness, God’s Spirit will be able to work in and through us to spread God’s love into the world.

I pray that each of us – you and I – open our hearts to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit so that we can fully comprehend, experience and acknowledge Christ’s love and the fullness of God.

And I wonder how much we limit God’s power within us by simply not trusting in Christ’s love. What would happen if we weren’t bound by our imagination or fear and simply went where God leads us? What could God do through us if we ‘let go and let God’?

When you reflect on your life, how often do you see God’s hand leading and guiding you through the good and not-so-good times? Have you seen how challenges that may or may not have been conquered can lead you to places or people you would never have imagined?

Or what about when you are faced with something overwhelming, and you hand it over to God, resulting in an okay and unexpected outcome? Have you ever thought that life could be easier if you went to God first rather than as a last resort when all else seems to have failed?

Glorious God, thank you for not being limited by my imagination. May you be glorified in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
