Volunteering opportunities

If you are considering nomination for membership on an LCANZ board, council, commission or committee, or wish to nominate someone for a position, you will need to complete this Nomination Form. Announcements about volunteer positions on LCA bodies are advertised through LCA eNews and, in some cases, The Lutheran. The details of the current vacancies are available below.

BOARD FOR FINKE RIVER MISSION CHAIRPERSON Expand

OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE THE INDIGENOUS LCANZ COMMUNITIES IN CENTRAL AUSTRALIA

Voluntary chairperson

Vacancy on the Board for Finke River Mission

The Standing Committee on Nominations, on behalf of the Finke River Mission (FRM), is inviting nominations from people with:

  • a deep commitment to the mission and values of the LCANZ and FRM
  • a passionate interest in, and commitment to, the education, spiritual, physical and emotional wellbeing of indigenous people in Central Australia
  • relevant qualifications, experience and/or skills, along with sufficient time to commit to this important governance leadership role.

The Board for FRM is responsible for setting the strategic direction and overall policy environment for the work of FRM, and in so doing, upholds the confessional teachings of the church as these relate to the nature and purpose of the ministry and mission of the board in the area of its activity. The board provides strategic leadership and support to FRM staff and promotes Lutheran agencies of the LCANZ in Central Australia. The FRM Board also:

  1. appoints the Directors of Yirara College of the FRM and Lutheran Mission Developments (LMD)
  2. directs the operations of the Hermannsburg (retail) Store
  3. directs the operations of FRM Services (which operates the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct.

With the retirement of the chair of the board, a vacancy for the residual synodical term now exists on the Board of Directors as chairperson. FRM and the LCANZ now seek nominations from individuals who believe they have the necessary skills, experience, qualifications and interest in serving the LCANZ through the FRM.

As a multi-faceted organisation, FRM and the LCANZ are seeking individuals with proven knowledge and skills in most or all of the following key areas:

Professional experience:

  • Not-for-profit (NFP) governance
  • Compliance
  • Policy development and implementation
  • Strategic planning
  • Management (NFP and/or retail)
  • Education (desirable)
  • Interaction with government agencies

Personal skills:

  • Collaborative and consultative leadership style (the board membership contains and requires expertise in diverse fields, and the chair must consolidate a wide range of perspectives in coordinating resolutions)
  • Excellent communicator, both within the organisation and as an external spokesperson
  • Culturally sensitive and ‘humble’ (a deep desire and drive to understand and adapt to unfamiliar worldviews, constantly open to learning and embracing complex cross-cultural perspectives on an ongoing basis)
  • Sensitive people manager, able to empathise with difficult and unique employee working contexts

If you are interested in serving on the FRM Board as the chair, or you know someone who may be interested, please complete the nomination form found here and send it to nominations@lca.org.au

Please feel free to contact the retiring Chair of the FRM, Marcia Hoffmann, on mobile 0477 364 857 for further information or a confidential discussion about this role.
