Standards of Ethical Behaviour and Code of Conduct
In December 2025, the General Church Board approved a reviewed version of the Standards of Ethical Behaviour. Underpinned by Scripture, the Standards of Ethical Behaviour and Code of Conduct apply to all aspects of the life of the church.
Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another... Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity (Colossians 3:12–14).
LCA Standards of Ethical Behaviour and Code of Conduct
As Christians, we know and proclaim that God loves all human beings. Responding to that love in how we behave towards one another is an important part of that message. As Jesus says in John 13:35, 'If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples'.
It is important that we clearly articulate the standard of behaviour we expect from one another, not using vague language but in useful and practical terms.
The below video was prepared before the approval of the reviewed version of the document, but the content remains relevant.

Child Safety Standards
The Lutheran Church of Australia is committed to providing a safe church environment for children and young people. Children are a precious gift from God, with special vulnerabilities, and they are to be protected from all forms of abuse. The LCA has no tolerance for child abuse in any form and affirms that its people have an important responsibility to care for children and to keep them safe.
