Bringing church to you

20 June 2016

‘How can we worship? We are a small group of worshippers in a remote town.’

‘How can I worship? I live over two hours away from my nearest church.’

‘How do you worship? What’s a Lutheran worship service like?’

These are just some of the questions we have been asked at Lutheran Media by people unable to get to a Lutheran worship service or those who would like to know more about the way people in the LCA/NZ worship.

Natalie lives in a remote community with no Lutheran church. She contacted us asking how she and those in her town can worship in a Lutheran church. Thanks to the support of St Michael’s Lutheran Church in Hahndorf, South Australia, Natalie and her community can worship with them through the Lutheran Church of Australia’s livestream website.

A young couple in another remote location worships with the people of Hahndorf in the same way. They recently had their child baptised at St Michael’s while they were visiting Adelaide.

There are many ways in which we can be a worshipping community today. We may be able to worship face to face. However, for some people, there are circumstances that can prevent or make it very difficult to do this.

And not everyone who can access a church may have a pastor leading that service each week. Your congregation may not be able to afford a pastor, there may be a long-term pastoral vacancy in your congregation, or your congregation may be part of a large multipoint parish. Also you may not be able to get to church if you live in a remote location, or are sick or have a disability.

As well as the opportunity to worship with St Michael’s online, there are more than 150 worship DVDs and CDs from St Michael’s and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Toowoomba, Queensland, sent out each week so that people can participate.

Visit the website to join St Michael’s live on a Sunday morning or watch throughout the week; or order a free weekly worship DVD from St Michael’s and Good Shepherd at the Lutheran Media website or call 1800 353 350. We’d be happy to send you a sample to watch.

Thanks to our donors and the volunteers of St Michael’s and Good Shepherd for making this worship ministry possible.
