Doors open on Perth mission project

12 April 2015

If you’re counting the number of Lutherans in LCA districts, Western Australia is not going to come out on top. But what the district lacks in members, it makes up for in vision.

The completion of the first phase of the district’s bold ‘Faith for the Future’ project was celebrated with great gusto during the recent WA District Convention of Synod. The official opening of St Johns Court on 1 March was attended by about 520 people. One worshipper described the gathering as ‘a glimpse of heaven … all the nations of the earth’, a reflection of the multicultural nature of St Johns.

The redevelopment of the St Johns Lutheran Church complex in Perth will generate valuable rental income to support mission projects across the district, as well as provide facilities that the congregation and district can use for gatherings and hospitality. A significant feature of the project is the set of sculptured panels in the external walls of the carpark, which depict biblical scenes and themes (see ‘Faith in pictures’, The Lutheran February 2015).

Financial contributions towards the multi-million dollar project have been contributed by generous supporters from around the country, and are still being received.
