Pastors lead the way

3 April 2019

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Twenty-three LCA pastors, including three bishops, are among more than 280 people who will walk up to 26km in an Australia-wide effort to support refugee children to go to school.

It’s great to see so many of our clergy committing to take part in the Australian Lutheran World Service fundraiser Walk My Way. For every $26 raised by walkers, one child living in refugee camps in Kenya and Djibouti in Africa will be able to go to school for a year.

On 13 April walkers will tackle the Women’s Pioneer Trail from the Adelaide Hills to the city’s eastern suburbs, while in the Northern Territory participants will walk from Good Shepherd Lutheran College’s Howard Springs campus to its Leanyer campus. Two weeks later WA-based walkers will walk up to 25 kilometres from Living Waters Lutheran College at Warnbro in the Rockingham area of outer suburban Perth. On 4 August, Walk My Way will take the form of a 25-kilometre challenge from Good Shepherd Lutheran College Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast. Some walkers unable to join any of the events planned to date will do individual walks.

As of Wednesday 3 April, there are 286 walkers registered and more than $47,600 raised, which will fund schooling for more than 1800 refugee children. But Walk My Way’s aim is to support 40,000 children – so there is much more to be done. That’s where you come in.

If your pastor is among the ranks of those taking part, why not sponsor him? If he’s not, why not challenge him to join up or to sponsor others?

And it’s not too late for anyone to register to walk or to get involved by making a donation to a walker or a team. Click here for more details.
