Search the scriptures
As soon as night came, the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived, they went to the synagogue. The people there were more open-minded than the people in Thessalonica. They listened to the message with great eagerness, and every day they studied the Scriptures to see if what Paul said was really true. Many of them believed; and many Greek women of high social standing and many Greek men also believed. (verses 10-12)
Read Acts 17:1-15
We have a friend who loves her Bible very much. Wherever she opens it you can see passages that she has underlined and often learnt by heart. In speaking to her you feel that she always wants to know more about what God has to say and what he promises to us as his children. And you can sense that she is responding to what she finds. She finds real joy in her daily life with her Lord.
The people in Berea were like that. They listened carefully to everything Paul had to say, and then they searched the Scriptures to see that it was really so.
You are blessed by God when you open yourself up to him like that, and you become an inspiration and blessing to others too. Listening to what God says and following him fills you with hope and peace. There is joy, heavenly joy, in following Jesus.
Lord Jesus, give me a greater desire to hear you speaking. And as I read the Scriptures, open my ears to bear so that I may grow in my love for you. Thank you for becoming my Saviour. Amen.
