What do I do?

Then they prayed, ‘Lord, you know the thoughts of everyone, so show us which of these two you have chosen to serve as an apostle m the place of Judas, who left to go to the place where he belongs.’ Then they drew lots to choose between the two men, and the one chosen was Matthias, who was added to the group of eleven apostles. (verses 24-26)

Read Acts 1:15-26

How often do we ask God for his guidance in our decision making processes, especially when we have big decisions to make – like who to marry, whether or not to buy another car, tractor or farm, whether to have an operation or to have treatment. There are many decisions we have to make throughout our entire lives. God has given us an intellect and reason. He has allowed us to have experiences to draw upon. He has given us family and friends to ask. And he has promised to hear our prayers and to answer them.

Maybe we don’t hear God as clearly as we would like because we hear what we want to hear rather than listening to what he wants.

Nevertheless, the promise is there. Ask, and God will answer. Ask him the next time a difficult decision comes your way. You may be surprised.

Father almighty, please continue to lead me to do your will by the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
