Jesus is your Saviour

26 February 2018

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. All the people in the synagogue had their eyes fixed on him, as he said to them, ‘This passage of scripture has come true today, as you heard it being read.’

They were all well impressed with him and marvelled at the eloquent words that he spoke. They said, ‘Isn’t he the son of Joseph?’ (verses 20-22)

Read Luke 4:14-30

Only Jesus has the right to make the claim that he made that day. He had been there when the foundations of the universe were being laid. He was the Word that brought everything into being, and he continued to be the Word that spoke God’s will and love right throughout the Old Testament. Isaiah and all the other prophets spoke about him and placed their hope in him.

It was this Word, so eloquent and clear, now ‘become flesh’, that impressed all those in the synagogue that day. They heard from his very lips that he was the one the prophets had foretold, the one who would come to set the people free.

Today you are hearing him say the very same thing, and just as eloquently, as you read it and hear it being said. His claim is true and will remain so forever, because God raised him from the dead to become the Saviour of the world.

Jesus, you are my Saviour. I have no-one else who has the authority and the power to set me free from my sins. You have done this for me. You are indeed the Messiah, the one who was to come. Thank you for everything. Amen.
