Former LCA International Mission scholarship student ordained in Cambodia

8 December 2017

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Daniel Orn, a former LCA International Mission scholarship holder at Australian Lutheran College (ALC), has been ordained as a pastor in LCA partner church, the Lutheran Church in Cambodia (LCC).

Assistant to the Bishop – International Mission Glenice Hartwich represented the LCA at the ordination in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on 11 November. Daniel was ordained by Bishop Terry Kee from the Lutheran Church in Singapore (LCS), another partner church of the LCC. The service, which was also led by Pastor Mose Lat from LCC, was held at the Rainbow Hostel, a boarding house at the heart of the young church’s mission. Young people, many of whom first came to know Jesus through the hospitality and nurture of the hostel, also helped to lead worship.

Daniel’s wife Sreypov and children Naomi, Christian and David, joined community and church leaders in supporting the new pastor at his ordination.

A former translator identified by mission workers in Cambodia because of his growing love of Jesus and his heart for mission, Pastor Daniel undertook ministry training with the support of partner churches. He received his early training in the Christian faith in Siem Reap, in the country’s northwest, and later studied for his Bachelor of Theology in Phnom Penh. Through the LCA’s partnership with the LCC, he was a short-term International Mission scholarship holder at ALC in 2016.

The LCC was founded through the mission work and support of partners, including the Lutheran World Federation’s Mekong Mission Forum, LCS and the LCA. The commitment and faith of local pastors Daniel, Mose, Vibol Khit, Sophouen Hay, and other leaders including Sreyleak Touch, following their conversions from Buddhism to Christianity, has been critical in fostering and facilitating its growth.
