Liturgy in one document: Liturgy in One Document, Conversion of St Paul

Opening sentence

God said to Ananias: ‘Paul is an instrument whom I have chosen

and before the people of Israel.’  (Acts 9:15 NRSV)

 OR

You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends;

Prayer of the day - (Collect):

Traditional

Almighty God,
you have built your church
on the foundation of the apostles and prophets.
Join us together in one spirit
by the teaching of St Paul,
and make us into a holy temple pleasing to you.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Modernised Traditional

Almighty God,
you let the light of the gospel
shine throughout the world
through the preaching of your servant St Paul.
Lead us who celebrate his wonderful conversion
to follow him in bearing witness to your truth.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Preface

It is indeed right and good,
Lord God, holy Father,
that we should at all times and in all places
give thanks to you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
You have sent your only Son
to appear among us as a human being,
and through him
you have fully revealed
the light of your presence to us.
And so, with angels and archangels,
and with all the company of heaven,
we adore and praise your glorious name:

and gives life to the world.’

Prayer after Communion

See the service order for a standard post-communion prayer. Alternatively, use the third prayer of the day (as listed above) at this point. It may be modified as follows:

Heavenly Father,
we thank you that in this meal
you have revealed
your Son, Jesus Christ, to us
and called us into your service.
May we imitate St Paul
in living a life of faith and witness.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.
