Liturgical Colour: Black
The service on Good Friday is the second part of the Three Days to Easter (Triduum) celebration.
The service consists of three main parts (four, if communion is included):
1. Liturgy of the word
2. Bidding prayer
3. Adoration of the cross
4. (Holy communion)
Most congregations have a firm tradition about celebrating or not celebrating the sacrament on this day. However, the rite for Good Friday in Church Rites provides for an optional Good Friday eucharist for those who wish to use it.
The primary service orders provided are without holy communion. However, your congregation may choose to add holy communion for various reasons. Please bear in mind the solemn nature of Good Friday and note that the liturgy should remain solemn and not contain prayers of thanksgiving after communion.
