Advice on Sustainable Use of Communion and Other Materials in Worship

In line with previous Church resolutions (2013 Convention of Synod) with its direction that we should act to protect Earth’s resources through the sustainable use and recycling of communion and other materials, the Commission on Worship offers the following suggestions:

• Congregations are encouraged to contact their local council for advice on recycling communion cups appropriately,
• Consider using individual glass cups if you are able to comply with your state’s hygiene regulations. Glass cups may be ordered from Australian Christian Resources.
• Source biodegradable individual cups if possible.
• Congregations are also encouraged to recycle all paper products such as bulletins, and to consider if some items need to be printed.
