Well anchored
We have this hope as an anchor for our lives. It is safe and sure, and geos through the curtain of the heavenly temple into the inner sanctuary. On our behalf Jesus has gone in there before us and has become a high priest for ever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek. (verses 19,20)
Read Hebrews 6:13-20
I have this picture in my mind of the temple. Outside it is this huge anchor embedded in the ground, with a strong rope running from the anchor and through the curtain of the Holy Place into the temple. The anchor looks pretty impressive, but it is more important to know what it is tied to.
Histories of shipwrecks are full of stories of ships that ran aground because, even though they put down their anchor, the rope attaching it to the shop broke, and the anchor, unattached, was useless on its own.
What is the anchor in your life? Financial security? Work? Family? Church? They are nice anchors. But only an anchor tied to the immovable and unchanging loving God will keep you safe and sure in life’s storms.
By the power of your Spirit, keep me firmly anchored in you, Lord. Amen.
