Saved by Grace through Faith
Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their Glory for worthless idols. (verse 9)
Read Jeremiah 2:1-11
Just over 500 years ago, an Augustinian monk and great Biblical scholar started discovering a truth in Scripture that had become obscured by the church of his day. A new day dawned when God was made flesh in Jesus. He first revealed the nature of God to us and then died an atoning death on the cross. He took the punishment intended for us because of our transgressions upon himself. A key passage for this monk, who went by the name of Martin Luther, became Romans 3:23-25 ‘For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement through faith in his blood.’
As we read through the Bible, we see a pattern. God’s people are faithful, then fall away, then cry out to God again. The same is true for our lives! Thankfully, we have Jesus and know that God will never forsake us as long as we seek forgiveness through him.
Why is Christ your greatest treasure?
Heavenly Father, you are a mighty fortress for me, a trusty shield and weapon against the flaming arrows of the evil one. Thank you for sending you son Jesus to die for me. In his name, amen.
