Pray for Tonga
At 5.00pm on 15 January, the local population of Tonga was deafened by an almighty bang so loud that the sound waves went twice around the world, and within minutes, ocean waves flattened homes and ash rained down. Sounds pretty scary to me.
Did you know that almost all Tongans are Christians, and the country basically stops on Sunday so they can worship? Way back in the 1800s (in response to missionaries), they dedicated the nation to God.
Astonishingly, only a handful of people were killed in this recent event, and they have only had a few COVID cases to date. Makes me wonder whether there is any correlation.
Let’s pray that these brothers and sisters can get back on their feet again. If you would like to donate, there is an opportunity through Australian Lutheran World Service here.
In each edition, we have an ethnic focus, so we will talk more about Tonga in that section.
