God’s covenant with Abram – circumcision
You will be the father of many nations. (verse 4b)
The whole land of Canaan… I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants, I will be their God … Every male among you must be circumcised. It will be the sign of the covenant.
Again God makes a covenant with his people, the people he loves. No longer wanderers, his people would have a permanent home, the land of Canaan. It is to be an everlasting possession. As a sign and seal every male from eight days old is to be circumcised.
Perhaps you see here a comparison with our present day baptism of babies. Here a washing takes place, your sins are forgiven for all time and a place is reserved in heaven for you. What a wonderful gift!
Do you remember the date of your baptism each year?
Thank you, Lord, for the riches given to me in my baptism. Amen.
