COVID-19 Protocols and Advice

Lutheran Archives reopening 7 July 2020

Lutheran Archives will reopen to the public on Tuesday 7 July 2020 with revised opening hours and services. There are reduced hours and desk spaces for researchers, and new protocols around deposits and donations of records.

Please ring us on (08) 8340 4009 or email us before a visit to Lutheran Archives to make an appointment. See our protocols and advice below for research visits, depositing or donating records, payments, book sales or other reasons.

Please do not enter Lutheran Archives if:

  • you are sick, have a cough, fever, sore throat, or any cold or flu symptoms, no matter how mild
  • you share a household with someone who is sick or has those symptoms
  • you have been in contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days
  • you have arrived from overseas or interstate (Vic, NSW, ACT only) within the past 14 days.

Research visits

Lutheran Archives is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday – closed Wednesdays. There are two research blocks per day: 9.30am–11.30am and 1.00pm–3.00pm. This allows for cleaning in between blocks. Please contact us to book a space: lutheran.archives@lca.org.au or (08) 8340 4009.

Do I need to book? Expand

Yes, a limited number of research desks are available. Bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance.

Can I book into both sessions? Expand

You may book a morning (9.30am–11.30am) and an afternoon block (1.00pm–3.00pm) on the same day; however, you will need to leave the premises between these two sessions so that cleaning can take place.

What if I’m late? Expand

Please arrive punctually. If you have not arrived after 30 minutes, we reserve the right to assign your desk reservation to another researcher.

How much will it cost? Expand

The access fee is $7.50 per hour or part thereof.

Why do you need my contact details? Expand

You will be required to provide your contact details: name and phone number. These details will be kept for 28 days, and may be used for tracing purposes should a COVID-19 case at Lutheran Archives be reported.

What other facilities or services are affected? Expand

No food, drink or large bags are allowed in the reading room.

We cannot provide access to toilet facilities at this time. The nearest public toilets are at Plant 4 Bowden, 250 metres away.

What health and safety measures are in place? Expand
  • Professional cleaners are thoroughly cleaning our premises daily. Staff are also regularly cleaning high-touch points.
  • All visitors will be asked screening questions on entry and need to provide contact details.
  • Hand sanitiser will be available, and customers will be asked to use this on entry and exit.
  • All researchers and visitors will be required to be 1.5 metres from each other.
  • Desks and chairs in the research room will be cleaned and sanitised between research blocks.
  • Records, books and other archival items that have been handled will be quarantined for 48 hours before being available again.

Depositing or donating records

What do I need to do in advance? Expand
  • Please ring or email us in advance, so that we can discuss:
    • the items you are seeking to deposit/donate
    • whether the items fit our collection
    • making an appointment time.
  • Due to the limited number of people that can fit in our reception space at one time, please make an appointment to ensure you don’t have to wait on arrival.
  • Make a list of the items in each box.
  • Place items into cardboard boxes (no plastic tubs, suitcases or other rigid and non-recyclable containers). The filled box should not be any heavier than 7kg.
What should I do on arrival at Lutheran Archives? Expand
  • Please report to our front desk and provide your contact details. Bring in the list of items, but don’t bring in the items with you.
  • Items will then be brought in through our delivery doors to the quarantine space. They will be quarantined for 48 hours before being moved into storage.
