An end and a beginning
A good person will never fail;
he will always be remembered.
He is not afraid of receiving bad news;
his faith is strong, and he trusts in the LORD.
He is not worried or afraid;
he is certain to see his enemies defeated.
(verses 6-8)
Read Psalm 112
An old month ends, a new one begins! Tomorrow is also the first day of a new season—spring. All around there is change.
Change is refreshing. Change keeps life interesting. But not all change is so welcome. I, for one, am far from impressed that my body doesn’t quite perform the stunts it used to. Fast fading too, is its youthful appearance. Such change serves as a sober reminder that this life is transient—here today and gone tomorrow.
Today’s psalm assures you that change does not necessarily equate with doom. Despite change, God’s righteous people will never be moved, and they will be remembered forever. God gives and teaches his righteousness to those who fear him. This is his free gift to you through Jesus, through whom you face every change with a firm, secure and steady heart, and without any fear whatsoever.
Everlasting God, ‘change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me.' Amen.
