Brief encounters
Melchizedek was not descended from Levi, but he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him, the man who received God’s promises. There is no doubt that the one who blesses is greater than the one who is blessed. (verses 6,7)
Read Hebrews 7:1-7
‘The one who blesses is greater than the one who is blessed.’ How true. For the one who blesses is giving to the other person something that they do not already possess. That’s why the gift of blessing is not limited to rich, powerful, well-educated, pious people only.
You are a blessing for others. You carry within you a special gift from God that no-one else can duplicate. This gift, which you bring to others through your very person, can enrich your family, your friends, your workmates and even complete strangers.
True greatness is not measured in terms of public recognition or wealth or power, but in the ability, opportunity and action of blessing.
Almighty God, thank you for giving me the chance to be a blessing to others today. Amen.
