Where was Jesus?
Suddenly a strong wind blew up, and the waves began to spill over into the boat, so that it was about to fill with water. Jesus was in the back of the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The disciples woke him up and said, ‘Teacher, don’t you care that we are about to die?’ (verses 37, 38)
Read Mark 4: 35-41
The disciples were battling to keep their boat from capsising that evening as strong winds whipped up heavy seas. Some were experienced, toughened fishermen, quite accustomed to the vagaries of the Sea of Galilee, but the situation was becoming desperate.
Where was Jesus?
There he was in the back of the boat, fast asleep, as if nothing was the matter. How could he do that to them? He was their Lord, they had seen him perform so many miracles, and yet he seemed totally unaware of their predicament.
There are times when you and I are in trouble, and we’re desperate. But where is Jesus? He doesn’t seem to be aware of our struggling and crying.
Just as Jesus was there in the boat, telling the disciples not to be afraid, he is with us too, even though we may not always feel his presence.
Jesus is with you, holding your hand and guiding you. So have faith and don’t be frightened.
When I think you are far from me, Lord Jesus, strengthen my faith and make me realise you are right beside me all the time. Amen.
