Placing our trust in God
You, LORD, are all I have,
and you give me all I need:
my future is in your hands.
How wonderful are your gifts to me;
how good they are! (verses 5,6)
Read Psalm 16
Things aren’t always what they seem. Life can appear to be difficult, painful and even cruel, but what a wonderful difference faith in God makes. Faith sees the loving hand of God behind and underneath all the happenings of life, supporting and directing us, and turning even bad things to our eternal good. That is why we often see people who trust in God as secure and full of peace, even though surrounded by difficult situations.
This psalm is worth committing to memory because it reminds us just how pervasive the presence and power of God is in our lives. The Lord, the Eternal one, the God who always was, is and will be, is our most important possession. Apart from him we are nothing. He provides us with all that we need in this life and for the future.
Spend a few moments with the psalm writer trying to count all God’s gifts to you. God is the creator and giver of all good things. Try to imagine what life would be like without God. If you do this, you will surely be filled with thoughts of overwhelming praise and thanks to God. That is why worship and praise are so central in the lives of Christians.
I praise you, God, for your unwavering and boundless love for me. You give me all I need. My future is in your hands. Amen.
