Mission to Australia & New Zealand

  •

The last recorded words we have of Jesus before he ascended into heaven include, 'Go and make disciples of all nations' (Matthew 28:19). So, while we Lutherans are committed to sharing the gospel with people overseas, we are also mindful that 'all nations' includes our homelands Australia and New Zealand.

We believe that all the people of God - not only those employed by the church - are called by him to share the saving gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Therefore the focus of our mission endeavours is to encourage and equip local congregations and their people to reach out into their communities with the love of God.

This encouraging and equipping of our people for local mission includes:

  • studying effective mission approaches in our own church and other churches
  • understanding our culture and how best to communicate the gospel within this context
  • assisting with the resourcing of congregations for mission
  • providing training opportunities
  • evaluating applications for funding projects.

Mission to Australia and New Zealand is overseen by the district departments, with support from the Lutheran Church of Australia's (LCA) Board for Mission. Specific mission activities include:

  • arranging conferences and seminars
  • developing a broad policy for ministry to Asian people living in Australia
  • active support of burgeoning ministries
  • implementation of 'Our Church in Mission'.
