Email Lists

The Lutheran Church of Australia sponsors email lists to further its mission and ministry. Read on to find out about current LCA email lists and how to go about establishing a new list for your group.

What are email lists?

Email lists, sometimes called ‘listservs’, assist groups of people to communicate easily on a subject of common interest without the need for everyone on the list to update their address books whenever the group gains or loses members. Emails and replies sent to a list are distributed to all subscribers to that list.

There are different types of lists:

• Open lists allow people to subscribe themselves.
• Closed lists require the list owner to subscribe new members.
• Unmoderated lists operate as a discussion list, with anyone on the list able to send a message to all list members.
• Moderated lists operate as email newsletters, with only the list moderator able to send messages to the list.

You can subscribe or unsubscribe to an open list by sending an email to the Subscription Address with the word subscribe or unsubscribe in the message area of your email.

How do I join a list?

Lists have two distinct addresses.

1. Subscription Address, is the address of the computer which manages the list. A typical LCA Subscription Address is listname-request@lists.lca.org.au.

2. List Address, is the address used to send messages to the list. A typical LCA List Address is listname@lists.lca.org.au

You can subscribe to an open list by sending an email to the Subscription Address with the word subscribe in the message area of your email. Conversely, you can unsubscribe to an open list by sending an email to the Subscription Address with the word unsubscribe in the message area of your email.
