Lutheran Winemakers Club

Australian Lutherans have a strong connection with winemaking (and wine drinking!) Many of the vineyards and wineries in the world-famous Barossa Valley in South Australia were founded by Lutheran settlers who brought their expertise in grape-growing and winemaking with them from Germany. Heritage-listed Lutheran churches in the Barossa stand literally among the vines, and official church functions almost always include wine - drunk in moderation and with consideration for non-drinkers and designated drivers, of course. Wine is part of our Australian Lutheran cultural heritage.

But as well as simply enjoying wine, we're now also putting it to work for us. About 20 of our Lutheran winemakers have come together to form the Lutheran Winemakers Club. It exists primarily to raise funds to support Operation Connect, the project of the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) that uses food and hospitality to connect with people in our communities.

The Longest Lutheran Lunch Six Pack

In September the winemakers released their latest collection, a six-pack chosen especially to adorn tables at an Operation Connect church-wide activity - the Longest Lutheran Lunch on Reformation Sunday, 30 October. We know you'll have enjoyed those wines, so keep an eye on this page for the Lutheran Winemakers Club's next exciting release.

The Lutheran Winemakers Club is supported by internationally renowned wine expert and wine-show judge Tyson Stelzer, who is the author and publisher of twelve wine books and is a regular contributor to ten wine magazines including Wine Spectator and Decanter.

So, when it comes to wine, we Lutherans know what we're doing.
