Little church with a big heart plans a caring Longest Lutheran Lunch

At Good News Lutheran Church, Albert Park in Adelaide, love is a part of everything the members try to do.

‘We are a small church, but we’re like a little family', says office secretary Cynthia Orr. ‘When new people come to our church, we love to be able to show love to them.’

Hosting a Longest Lutheran Lunch event is right up their alley, as their ladies fellowship has been running a catering service for the local community for many years. ‘We’ve raised money for new chairs and tables and even a new airconditioner', says Cynthia.

‘We’ve invited a lot of people from our local area – people at the hairdresser or from garage sales ... We really want this event to be broader than just the church itself.’

The lunch will have a musical theme, with a two-piece band playing Australian and classic German favourites on saxophone and keyboard throughout. There will even be a singalong to encourage guests to join in the merriment.

‘We have organised for people to shift down a seat or two and swap seats so that they are sitting next to someone new, so people talk to each other more', explains Cynthia.

‘We’ll start at 12.00 with drinks and nibbles, then work our way through meat, salads and dessert for a 4.00 pm finish.’

During the lunch it is anticipated that locum pastor Paul Lohe will welcome the guests and briefly share the message of Reformation and what it means for Lutherans.

‘We want people to understand more about the Reformation because a lot of people just don’t know. And we just want to show God’s love to new people in our community.’
