I believe
‘God has raised this very Jesus from death. And we are all witnesses to this fact. He has been raised to the right-hand side of God, his Father, and has received from him the Holy Spirit, as he had promised. What you now see and hear is his gift that he has poured out on us.’ (verses 32, 33)
Read Acts 2: 22.36
Two thousand years after his death there are millions of people who claim Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Why?
There is the word, which has been proclaimed to us, which has been handed down to us by the church, by our fathers and mothers in the faith. St John put it this way: ‘What we have seen and heard we announce to you also, so that you will join with us in the fellowship that we have with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ’ (1 John 1:3).
But there is another testimony that is necessary in order for us to believe – the testimony of the Holy Spirit. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we hear the word of God and we believe. Filled with the very Spirit of Christ, we experience God’s love each and every day. The two go together like love and marriage, like a horse and carriage. You can’t have one without the other!
Dear Father, thank you for your word. Thank you for your Spirit. Help me always to trust in your Son as my Lord and Saviour. Amen.
