God’s choice: you
Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! For in our union with Christ he has blessed us by giving us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world. Even before the world was made, God had already chosen us to be his through our union with Christ, so that we would be holy and without fault before him. (verses 3, 4a)
Read Ephesians 1:1-10
One of the things that most people value in our society is the freedom of choice that we enjoy. To a large extent we can choose what we want to eat, what clothes we want to wear, where we want to go, and what we want to say or do. In fact, we spend much of our time just thinking about what choices we are going to make – about how we are going to spend our money and our time.
Sometimes we can become so preoccupied with the choices that we make that we can forget what really matters. We can forget that in the end it is God’s choice of us to be his people that determines our destiny.
God didn’t choose you on a whim. Even before the world was made, even before you could do anything to earn his love, God chose you to be his child and set aside a place for you in his kingdom. Think about this truth, and be truly free!
God, thank you for choosing me. Give me the freedom to be as merciful and generous with others as you have been with me. Amen.
