LCA Support Services
Church Worker Support is a department of the Executive Office of the Church, also known as Support Services. It is one of five departments exercising the 'enabling' functions outlined in our LCA Strategic Direction 2015–2018.
Working with us are:
Together we provide the support services for LCA and Lutheran Church of New Zealand (LCNZ) agencies and congregations that enable them to focus on their mission and ministry activities (the 'go' and 'grow' priorities in our LCA Strategic Direction).
Church Worker Support
Church workers are the hands and feet who do the work of the Lutheran Church in Australia and New Zealand in congregations and other agencies and offices.
Church workers are pastors, lay workers, people working in ministry teams such as children’s, youth, family or music and worship ministries, parish nurses, ministry people providing ministry support such as administrative support, and some national and district office staff. The list is almost endless. Some people are paid to do this work, others volunteer.
How we serve
The Church Worker Support Department exists to serve and support people who undertake mission and ministry activities for the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA). We will do this by working with congregations and other agencies to ensure that church workers are appropriately skilled, equipped, supported and resourced to undertake their mission and ministry service. We aim to develop and support a comprehensive and integrated approach to the care, support and management of church workers.
Ultimately the expectation is that all church workers serving the LCA would:
- start well
- stay and grow
- finish well.
We work closely with the LCA Human Resource System team and will gradually take on increasing responsibility for the growing functionality of the HR system. This will take some time and the intention is to provide more support not less! One of the defining features of the Christian faith is how we care for others, and so everything that the Church Worker Support Department does is grounded in the reality of showing care and concern for others so that we can truly bring love to life in the church.
All the work of the department will support the LCA to 'take such action as is necessary for the protection of the congregations, pastors, teachers and other church workers in the performance of their duties and the maintenance of their rights' (Object 3.1.14 in the LCA Constitution).
As a new department, we are keen to support you and your teams. We’d love to hear from you.
