Board for Lutheran Aged Care Australia
The Board for Lutheran Aged Care Australia (BLACA) is an agency of the LCA. It acts as an advisory body whose main aim is to give guidance to our church in the development and coordination of the ministry to the aging and the provision of aged care. To that end, BLACA develops policies, proposals and opportunities for all Lutheran aged-care facilities, which provides benefits in pastoral care, staff training and recruitment, loans benefits and the general sharing and networking of resources at the national level and from a national perspective.
In addition BLACA provides opportunities for Lutheran facilities and services to be part of the aged-care discussion at the national level. Lutheran facilities and services represents a significant proportion of the aged-care sector and are thus able to join with other organisations to lobby governments for changes in legislation that will determine a more positive future for the elderly. BLACA has two representatives on the National Aged Care Alliance, which is a representative body of peak national organisations in aged care, including consumer groups, providers, unions and health professionals.
Scholarships
At its national conference in May 2012, BLACA launched a Scholarship Scheme for all pastoral carers working in Lutheran aged-care facilities. It is for those people already ministering in this specialised area of pastoral care, those wishing to enter it and those wanting to undertake research or create innovative resources. The brochure provides information about eligibility and application process. Download BLACA Scholarship Scheme brochure here.
Conference
BLACA holds a biannual conference, which aims to train and equip staff in aged-care facilities, as well as build unity and cooperation between facilities and services.
The 2012 Conference was held 2-4 May in Adelaide.

Although this booklet, which was produced by the LCA's SA/NT District's Aged Care Council, cites South Australian regulations and conditions, it will assist congregations in other districts to at least get the ball rolling.
