Aged Care

Caring for the aged and ageing is a major focus of the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA). There are 44 Lutheran aged-care services in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and New Zealand, which together care for approximately 4000 residents in either residential care or retirement villages. As the Australian and New Zealand populations age rapidly, our church's board for aged care is helping to prepare and equip the LCA so that it can meet the challenges of caring for the approaching population boom of elderly persons.

Community Visitors Scheme
Lutheran Community Care SA/NT’s Community Visitors Scheme links people living in an aged-care home with a regular visitor. This service is available to residents who are without family or friends to visit them, have limited contact with family and friends, are socially isolated in the facility, or are frail and not as mobile as they once were and confined to their bed.
Our trained volunteer visitor will call on their designated resident at least once a fortnight for up to an hour. Usually the time is spent chatting, discussing local news, reminiscing, reading or even working on a hobby or activity together. Residents using the program enjoy the regular visits and look forward to spending time with a person genuinely interested in them.
