A Taste of Things to See
Bilums
In Papua New Guinea bilums are the universal carrier.
The symbol for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Papua New Guinea incorporates the bilum, signifying Jesus carrying man's burdens of sorrow, fear and sin.
Storyboards
Spirits and ancestors were traditionally depicted on bark paintings but wooden story boards illustrate everyday life. This storyboard, crafted by JOB carvers in Lae, contains symbols of Christ's death, resurrection and ascension.
Sumatran Artefacts
Some festive decorations from GKPA, Sumatra in the South East Asian section of the museum. Since 1975 the Lutheran Church in Australia has had mission partnerships with churches in Singapore, Malaysia/Sabah, Thailand, Indonesia and India.
Visit the museum and see the full display of interesting artefacts.
A book, packed with information about the Museum and its artefacts, is available for $4. See the Publications page for details.
