Board for Mission

World Mission Logo

This is the logo of the World Mission Ministry of the Lutheran Church of Australia.

The concentric circles reflect the words of Acts 1:8 where Jesus describes our mission task with what could be called concentric circles:

'Jerusalem... Judea ... Samaria … the ends of the earth'.

The circle is also symbolic of the world, which reminds us that our mission task is global, world-wide.

The centre of this activity, at home and far away, is the Cross of Christ. The Cross remains the centre and focal point, no matter from which angle you view the logo.

The Cross is partly placed onto the circles, in part it is under them. This indicates the interaction between the Cross of Christ and the world he died to save.

The geographic areas under the Cross display the main focus of the LCA's World Mission programme, namely Papua New Guinea and South East Asia and their churches with whom we work together in world mission.

The other sections of the map wish to suggest that there are also tasks and points of contact which lie beyond our specific focus at this time in the history of the Lutheran Church of Australia.
