About Lutheran Aged Care Australia

At the 2003 Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) Synod, approval was given to establish the Board for Lutheran Aged Care Australia (BLACA). For several years prior, an informal arrangement existed between facilities that provided a national forum where issues relating to aged care were discussed. A National conference in Adelaide in May 2000 provided the catalyst for a more formal arrangement to be developed with a working party formed comprising representatives from each state.

A constitution has been developed and membership to the Board is representative of Church Districts and Facilities. The Board meets three times each year and an annual conference provides a forum for local Board members, chaplains, managers and staff to meet and discuss common issues.

The general aim of the Board is to support facilities in their day-to-day operations by acting in an advisory role. It does not intend to duplicate work of local and state networks or compete with conferences run by industry groups.

The Board welcomes feedback from facilities to assist in clarification this role.

Aged Care Online

This LCA website now includes details on all Lutheran Aged Care facilities within Australia and New Zealand, and the services that they provide. Facilities are encouraged to ensure that this information is accurate – updates can be made by contacting LCA Web Manager, David Mau, at webmanager@lca.org.au.

In future it is anticipated that the website will provide additional information and resources for facilites.

Funding of BLACA

Each facility has been asked to contribute to the funding of BLACA. This takes the form of a facility levy and information will be forwarded to each facility annually. Every effort has been made to minimise the costs by locating meetings in major centres closest to the majority of members.
